The world of vaping can be incredibly complex and confusing. If you’re new to vaping or e-cigarettes, the different devices, components, and terminology can be overwhelming, so we’ve uncomplicated the basics and collected them for you in this handy guide.
The simple answer is: ‘the act of inhaling vapour produced by any kind of e-cigarette or personal vapouriser’.
For most users (called vapers), it’s an alternative to smoking, with the majority using products that contain nicotine. The process involves applying heat to a liquid – usually containing nicotine and flavourings – which generates a virtually odourless vapour that’s inhaled by the user. And since no tobacco is burned, vapers get their nicotine hit without the smell of smoke, ash, yellowing, or other undesirable effects of smoking cigarettes.
Vapourisers may seem like cutting-edge technology that’s only been around for a handful of years, but the modern e-shisha actually has its roots in a patent for an ‘electric vaporiser’ that was filed in New York in 1927.
And although inventors experimented with the idea for decades it wasn’t until a Chinese medical researcher manufactured the first e-shisha in 2003 that vaping really took off.
Since then, vaping has piqued the interest of millions worldwide, with the number of vapers reaching an all-time high in 2018, and more and more innovative devices being introduced every month. Nobody knows what the future holds for vaping, but one thing’s for sure – things don’t look to be slowing down anytime soon.
